The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Jammu Bench has significantly outperformed in the disposal of cases.
In 2024, the bench disposed of 8035 cases which is the highest disposal among the 19 regional benches located all over India. This is notwithstanding the fact that bench lacks necessary facilities-proper building, sufficient courtroom, library, bar room and also there is shortage staff.
The Union Minister in charge of DoPT Dr Jitendra Singh has congratulated the CAT Jammu Bench for record disposal in a post on X. There was one Division Bench and one Single Bench which put forth a lot of efforts to dispose of over 8000 cases. Among all CAT judicial members nationwide, the bench of Rajinder Dogra (Judicial Member) has disposed of approximately record 7300 cases alone.
About 10,000 pending cases were transferred from the High Court of J&K and registered in CAT, while 4,000 new cases were filed in 2024. Out of 14,000 cases approximately 8100 have been disposed and 5900 are pending. Top officials’ salaries were also stopped in 100 cases that were older than five years and for which no reply had been filed. Thereafter reply in 90 percent of the cases have been filed and they are now ready for hearing.
The court has also decided a 37-year-old case who had been litigating for a compassionate appointment with the PHE Department since 1987. All the cases transferred from High Court up to 2010 have been disposed of till date. (Daily Excelsior)
