Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the most followed global leader on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), with over 100 million followers. This milestone places Prime Minister Modi far ahead of other world leaders, including the US President Joe Biden with 38.1 million followers, Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed with 11.2 million followers, and Pope Francis with 18.5 million followers.
“A hundred million on @X! Happy to be on this vibrant medium and cherish the discussion, debate, insights, people’s blessings, constructive criticism, and more. Looking forward to an equally engaging time in the future as well,” Modi posted on X.
In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also leads by a significant margin over other Indian politicians. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has 26.4 million followers, while Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has 27.5 million followers. Modi is also ahead of other opposition leaders such as Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav with 19.9 million followers, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with 7.4 million followers, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad, and NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar with 2.9 million followers.
Modi’s immense popularity on X has made him a focal point for world leaders who seek to engage with him to boost their own follower bases, engagements, views, and reposts. Most notably, Italy Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s social media engagements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi have sparked memes and moments of remarkable traction on X.

Beyond politicians, Prime Minister Modi also surpasses global sporting icons such as Virat Kohli with 64.1 million followers, Brazilian football star Neymar Jr. with 63.6 million followers, and US basketball player LeBron James with 52.9 million followers. He is also more followed than celebrities like Taylor Swift with 95.3 million followers, Lady Gaga with 83.1 million followers, and Kim Kardashian with 75.2 million followers.
