Prime Minister Narendra Modi while quoting CM Omar Abdullah’s Tweet said June 6 will be an important day for the residents of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir when infrastructure projects valued at ₹46,000 crores will take a big leap. These projects will offer the potential for improved connectivity and the socio-economic development of the region.
The prominent aspects will be the inauguration of the Chenab Rail Bridge, the tallest railway arch bridge in the world, a clear symbol of now booming engineering excellence in India. The Chenab Rail Bridge aims to create rail connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar, this will reduce journey times and ease travel considerably.
Also set for inauguration is the Anji Bridge, the first cable-stayed railway bridge in India, constructed over challenging terrain and complex geography. It is significant and a milestone for Indian transport infrastructure.
Importantly, a major part of this infrastructure development is the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), an important strategic project this will ultimately provide all-weather connectivity through Jammu and Kashmir’s, the USBRL will enable a seamless travel experience and efficient movement of goods and services.
Additionally, the Vande Bharat Express train services will start operating between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar to support spiritual tourism, and offer a convenient travel experience for pilgrims and tourists while supporting new economic, livelihood, and employment opportunities from within the region.
In a message posted on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi stated:
Tomorrow, 6th June is indeed a special day for my sisters and brothers of Jammu and Kashmir. Key infrastructure projects worth Rs. 46,000 crores are being inaugurated which will have a very positive impact on people’s lives.
In addition to being an extraordinary feat of architecture, the Chenab Rail Bridge will improve connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. The Anji Bridge stands tall as India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge in a terrain that is challenging.
The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project ensures all weather connectivity and the Vande Bharat trains from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar will boost spiritual tourism and create livelihood opportunities.
