In a move to address manpower shortages in the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat has significantly reduced his own security cover by over 65%, emphasizing the need for efficient deployment of personnel.

Speaking at Thana Diwas in Jammu, Prabhat stated that additional forces have been stationed across the region to bolster law and order. Leading by example, he revealed that two-thirds of his personal security detail had been relieved, asserting that “charity begins at home.”

Addressing concerns regarding police postings, the DGP assured that officers demonstrating exceptional performance would be rewarded with favorable assignments. Acknowledging the need for structural improvements within the force, he noted that systemic changes require time, remarking, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”

Prabhat also accused Pakistan’s Army and ISI of orchestrating drug smuggling operations through militant networks, expressing concern over the growing involvement of school-going children in drug peddling. He attributed this trend to a lack of parental supervision and called for collective societal responsibility.

On women’s safety, the DGP issued a stern warning to investigating officers, stating that any failure to file a chargesheet within 60 days would invite strict disciplinary action. Dismissing any sense of authority, he reaffirmed his commitment to service, stating, “I have no credentials of being a ruler; I am here to serve in Jammu and Kashmir.” [KNT]
