Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kupwara Police have successfully solved a hit-and-run case within a short span of time, arresting the accused and seizing the vehicle involved.
“On July 4, 2025, Police Station Kupwara received information about a tragic incident in which an unidentified vehicle struck a pedestrian, Farooq Ahmad Shah, son of Abdul Subhan Shah, a resident of Tikker Kupwara, at Tikker, critically injuring him. The driver fled the scene along with the vehicle, leaving the victim grievously hurt. Despite immediate medical attention, the injured man later succumbed to his injuries,” reads a statement as per Alfaaz – The Words.
“Following the incident, an FIR (No. 207/2025) under sections 281 and 125-A of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Kupwara, and an intensive investigation was launched,” the statement reads.
“The Kupwara police team, led by diligent officers, employed all possible means to trace the culprit. Multiple suspects were questioned, and technical analysis, including forensic support from FSL experts, was meticulously conducted. After sustained efforts, crucial leads emerged, eventually leading to the identification and arrest of the accused from the Awoora area.”
“The accused has been identified as Wasim Ajaz Khan, son of Gulab Khan, resident of Awoora, Kupwara. The vehicle used in the commission of the offence, an ECCO Sports van bearing registration number HR26CC-275, has also been seized,” reads the statement, adding further that the accused has been booked under sections 181, 125-A, and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
