A young man was killed while bravely resisting a robbery attempt at his home in Qazigund area of South Kashmir, officials said on Friday.
The tragic incident unfolded when a group of unidentified intruders broke into the residence of Abdul Ahad Banday late Thursday night. Zahid Ahmad Banday, the son of the house owner, confronted the burglars and tried to foil the theft attempt. During the scuffle, one of the assailants attacked Zahid with a sharp-edged weapon, inflicting grievous injuries.
Zahid was immediately rushed to Emergency Hospital Qazigund, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Meanwhile, family members managed to overpower one of the attackers and handed him over to Qazigund Police. A toy pistol and a sharp knife were recovered from the suspect’s possession, officials said, adding that the accused had also sustained injuries during the confrontation and was shifted to GMC Anantnag for treatment.
The other accomplices managed to escape from the spot and are currently on the run.
Police have taken cognizance of the matter, and a case has been registered. A manhunt has been launched to track down the remaining suspects. Further investigation is underway. (KDC)
