Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized the significance of natural farming as a key solution to climate change and soil health restoration. He highlighted that SKUAST-K has envisioned a “School of One Health,” wherein natural farming will play a crucial role in ensuring environmental and human well-being. Prof. Ganai further underscored the importance of impact-based studies and the establishment of a sustainable value chain, including farmer organizations, bio-input centers, product certification, and market linkages.

The event was attended by prominent officials, including Director Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Kashmir, Mr. Mohd Alyas Khateeb (also Mission Director, NMNF, J&K), Director Extension Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Research Prof. Haroon R. Naik, Director (P&M) Prof. Shabir Ahmad Wani, and Dean Faculty of Horticulture Prof. Neelofar Banday, among others. Dr. Mandar H. Geete, a national expert on natural farming from MANAGE, Hyderabad, provided valuable insights into the implementation and benefits of the initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Extension Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth stressed that the program aligns with the Government of India’s flagship mission to transition from conventional to sustainable farming practices. She highlighted that the training aims to equip 40 master trainers who will further train 306 Krishi Sakhis at district and block levels across 15 districts of J&K.

Prof. Haroon R. Naik elaborated on India’s commitment to reducing atmospheric CO₂ levels under the Kyoto Protocol and Paris Agreement, stating that natural farming plays a vital role in achieving these goals. He called for the development of standardized natural farming practices for wider adoption by the farming community.

Sheikh Imran, Nodal Officer, NMNF, J&K, provided a detailed overview of the initiative, stating that it will cover 153 clusters across 15 districts, with 15 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) actively involved.
