Srinagar among 9 districts receive average rainfall in March so far

The week-long wet spell till March 16 in Jammu and Kashmir has ended the large deficit rainfall across 17 districts with Srinagar, the summer capital, among nine stations witnessing average rainfall during the last 19 days, starting from March 01 to March 19.

Overall Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a deficit of 16 per cent rainfall during the period as against the average rainfall of 95.2mm, the region has recorded 80.2 mm precipitation.

As per the data, nine stations including Srinagar, Anantnag, Budgam, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Ramban, Kishtwar, Kulgam and Kupwara have recorded average rainfall in the last 19 days. Bandipora in north Kashmir has recorded an excess rainfall of above 23 per cent during the period.

However, three stations in Jammu and Kashmir including Reasi, Samba and Kathua have recorded a large deficit rainfall during the period with the details revealing that the districts saw a deficiency of 69 per cent, 71 per cent and 81 per cent respectively.

Pulwama in South Kashmir is he only station where large excess rainfall was recorded during the period. The station has witnessed a rainfall of 72 per cent rainfall above normal precipitation.

Doda, Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri and Udhampur have recorded a deficit rainfall ranging between 20 to 59 per cent this month so far.

Pertinently, the weatherman here has predicted generally dry weather conditions till March 26th evening.

As per the forecast, the Director Meteorological department, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad has said that there is a possibility of fresh spell of light rain and snow (higher reaches) at scattered places from on March 27 and 28.

He added that generally dry weather is expected from March 29 to March 31st—(KNO)
