The region of Kashmir is currently experiencing a heightened cold spell, with Srinagar registering the coldest night of the season at minus 2.0°C on Wednesday.
According to a meteorological official, Srinagar reported a temperature of minus 2.0°C, compared to minus 1.4°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 1.1°C below the seasonal norm. Similarly, Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 2.0°C, exhibiting a 1.0°C deficit from the usual temperature for this time of the year in the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, a renowned resort in south Kashmir, documented a low of minus 5.1°C, contrasting with minus 4.3°C from the previous night and deviating by 1.8°C below the seasonal average. Kokernag, situated in south Kashmir as well, registered a minimum of minus 0.5°C, surpassing the previous night’s 0.2°C, with the temperature marginally exceeding the usual levels by 0.1°C.
In north Kashmir, Kupwara town reported a low of minus 2.7°C, indicating a deviation of 1.3°C below the normal temperature, compared to minus 1.4°C on the previous night. Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort in north Kashmir, noted a low of minus 2.2°C, slightly above the previous night’s minus 2.3°C and 1.1°C higher than the customary temperature for this period.
Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, documented a minimum temperature of 9.0°C, displaying a decrease from 9.9°C on the previous night and falling short of the seasonal average by 0.8°C.
The meteorological official stated that the weather is anticipated to be partially cloudy until December 7, with a transition to partly to generally cloudy conditions from December 8-10.
