As Gulmarg transforms into a winter sports hub for the Khelo India Winter Games, the Traffic Department of Rural Kashmir is working tirelessly to keep the roads clear despite persistent rain and fresh snowfall.

With thousands of tourists, athletes, and officials flocking to the region, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, R.P. Singh, highlighted the department’s round-the-clock efforts to ensure smooth vehicular movement.

“Gulmarg is witnessing an unprecedented influx of visitors, and managing traffic in these conditions is no easy task,” Singh told. “But our teams are on the ground, battling harsh weather to prevent congestion and ensure safe passage for everyone.”

The scenic roads leading to Gulmarg have been blanketed in fresh snow, making navigation tricky for drivers. Yet, traffic personnel, dressed in heavy winter gear, remain stationed at key points, directing vehicles and clearing bottlenecks.

“The snowfall may make Gulmarg look like a postcard, but for us, it means extra caution,” he said.

“We are working in freezing conditions, ensuring roads remain accessible, and vehicles don’t get stranded.”

To prevent gridlocks, the department has issued advisories for tourists and locals, urging them to follow designated routes, use snow chains where necessary, and avoid reckless driving.

Visitors and participants at the Khelo India Winter Games have praised the authorities for maintaining order despite challenging conditions.

“I expected traffic chaos with so many people coming in, but the roads are surprisingly well-managed,” said Rahul Verma, a participant from Himachal Pradesh. “Even with snowfall, the movement is smooth, and the officials are guiding us well.”

Similarly, Amina Khan, a tourist from Delhi, expressed her relief: “We were worried about roadblocks, but the traffic police are doing an incredible job. It feels safe and well-organized.” “We are doing our best, but we need the public’s support,” the SSP stated. “If people follow the rules, avoid unnecessary halts, and drive responsibly, we can ensure a hassle-free experience for everyone.”(KNS)
