Senior leader Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and District President Baramulla Mohd Rafique Rather has expressed deep concern over the widespread damage caused by a gusty storm that hit various areas of Baramulla district, leaving dozens of houses damaged and several families distressed.
In a statement issued today, Rafique Rather said the sudden storm has created panic and hardship for residents, in rural and urban areas particularly in economically vulnerable areas. “Many families have lost their shelter and belongings due to this untimely and powerful storm. Immediate intervention is necessary to prevent further suffering,” he stated.
Rafique Rather has urged the Baramulla District administration to promptly dispatch teams to assess the scale of the damage and identify affected households. He emphasized the need for fair and transparent documentation of losses so that compensation can be provided without any delay.
“The affected families must not be left to suffer in silence. The government has a responsibility to step in with relief measures, financial assistance, and rehabilitation support. I appeal to the present Government to prioritize this issue and ensure that the victims are treated with compassion and urgency,” Rather added.
He further called on local officials, social workers, and community representatives to assist in relief efforts and ensure that no affected family is overlooked.
Rather also called for strengthening of disaster management mechanism to deal with such situations effectively keep in consideration climatic changes taking place in Kashmir for some years.
