Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra Tuesday asserted that for his party, the restoration of statehood is equivalent to the restoration of special status, following the Supreme Court verdict on Article 370.

Talking to reporters outside the Legislative Assembly in Jammu, Karra said the Congress party’s stance on special status has become clearer than ever after the court’s ruling. “Every party has its own interpretation of special status, but for us, it means restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

He emphasized that the Congress is committed to safeguarding the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly concerning employment, land, and local resources. “We seek protection of jobs, land, and resources for our people, and this can only be ensured through the restoration of statehood,” Karra stated.

Karra urged the Modi government to act without delay in reinstating Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. “The people of this region deserve the constitutional guarantees that were taken away. The Centre must expedite the process and ensure that Jammu and Kashmir is granted its due rights,” he added. [KNT]
