The traffic police directed guardians and owners of the vehicles not to allow their minor children to drive scooters or four-wheelers, failing which a punitive imprisonment for 3 years and a fine of Rs 25000 shall be charged, Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Rural Kashmir Rajinder Pal Singh said.

On Saturday, more than 3000 vehicles, including two-wheelers, were seized by the traffic police in Srinagar for violating the traffic norms.

The advisory stated that all school authorities, private coaching institutions, and parents are advised not to allow students or minor children to drive two- or four-wheelers, as this trend has claimed many precious lives so far seized and has to be curbed in order to avoid further obliteration.

“Allowing a minor to drive a vehicle is a serious offence and warrants punitive action under Section 199A M.V. Act 1988 against the guardian of the juvenil or owner of motor vehicle,” the advisory reads.

It has also directed that the registration of the vehicles used in the commission of the offence shall be cancelled for a period of twelve months. (Agencies)
