Islamabad — Islamabad District and Sessions Court has extended the interim bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana 2.0 case until January 7.

The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad extended the interim bails of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, and Bushra Bibi in the case until January 7, 2024.

The hearing of bail petitions was conducted by Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Mujoka.

During the hearing, junior lawyers appeared on behalf of the accused. The junior lawyer informed the court that the senior counsel was busy with another case in Central Jail Adiala and could not attend today.

The Islamabad District and Sessions Court extended the interim bails of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi until January 7, 2024, and adjourned the hearing.

Earlier last week, a trial court had indicted PTI founder Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi in a case related to alleged violation of the state gift repository – Toshakhana – rules during the former’s term as the prime minister to acquire a precious jewelry set.

Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand read out the charge-sheet against the former PM and his wife in a courtroom inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where Imran has been detained for over one year.

Both the PTI founding chairman and his wife – who were present in the court – denied the allegations.

The court later adjourned till December 18. At the next hearing, the prosecution – the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) – will present the first four of its 28 witnesses.

Toshakhana 2.0 Case

The Toshakhana 2.0 case involves allegations against Imran Khan, the PTI founder, and his wife Bushra Bibi. The couple is accused of illegally retaining a Bulgari jewelry set gifted to them during a visit to Saudi Arabia in May 2021.

The Bulgari jewelry set, which included a ring, a bracelet, a necklace, and a pair of earrings, was valued at approximately Rs75.7 million. However, the couple allegedly undervalued the jewelry set, resulting in a loss of Rs32.9 million to the national treasury.

An investigation into the matter found that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi had violated Section 9 and Subsections 3, 4, 6, and 12 of the NAB Ordinance 1999. The investigation also revealed that the couple had failed to deposit the jewelry set into the national treasury, as required by law. — (Express Tribune)
