Srinagar, June 26 : In a significant announcement ahead of the holy month of Muharram, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday confirmed that the 8th and 10th Muharram processions will be allowed this year, just as they were last year.
The assurance came during a press conference called by the LG to brief the media on the arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, which is scheduled to begin on July 3. Responding to a question regarding Muharram preparations, LG Sinha stated that the religious processions would be permitted along the same traditional routes as followed previously.
“The 8th and 10th Muharram processions will be allowed this year on the same routes as last year,” LG Sinha said. “We are ensuring that religious observances for all communities are handled with proper care, coordination, and sensitivity.”
The confirmation has been welcomed by members of the Shia community, who consider the 8th and 10th days of Muharram particularly sacred and observe them with large public mourning processions and gatherings.
Officials said the administration is committed to making all necessary arrangements to ensure that both the Muharram processions and the Amarnath Yatra proceed smoothly and peacefully.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the spirit of communal harmony and mutual respect will continue to guide the administration’s approach. “We are making sure every religious sentiment is respected and facilitated with proper arrangements,” he added. [KNT]
