The Transport Department has raised concerns over agents hijacking its operations and misleading the public by offering services already available online.

These faceless services, introduced by the department, include critical tasks such as changing the address in the Registration Certificate (RC), updating biometrics in driving licenses, issuing duplicate RCs, transferring ownership, and renewing driving licenses.

Transport Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan revealed that numerous complaints have been received about agents charging unsuspecting citizens for services that are freely accessible online. He appealed to the public to take advantage of the department’s user-friendly digital platforms using their phones or computers and to avoid falling prey to unscrupulous agents.

“Agents are deceiving people by claiming they can expedite these services, but the truth is that all these facilities are easily available through our online system,” Mahajan told the news agency Kashmir News Trust. He urged people to educate themselves about these faceless services and bypass intermediaries.

Reports suggest that several agents have been extorting money from individuals under the guise of assisting with processes that the department has fully digitized. Authorities are now focusing on raising awareness and ensuring citizens understand how to access these online facilities directly.

The Transport Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan reiterated its commitment to ensuring hassle-free and corruption-free services for all citizens and warned that strict action would be taken against those exploiting the system. [KNT]
