In yet another action against drug smugglers in the district, Kupwara Police has arrested two persons from Devar area of Police Station Lalpora involved in smuggling of narcotics. Acting on a specific information that two persons are planning to smuggle narcotics from Dever towards Kupwara, a police naka in presence of Executive Magistrate was established near Lalpora Market by a team of Police led by SHO Police Station Lalpora Insp. Naseer Malik under the Supervision of DySP Sogam after taking cognisance of the matter. During the course of naka checking, one Tata Mobile vehicle bearing registration number JKO9C 4016 on way from Dever towards Kupwara driven by one Fayaz Ahmad Mir son of Nazir Ahmed Mir resident of Dever Anderbugh and boarded by another accomplice Mansoor Ahmad Mir son of Fakirudin Mir resident of Dever Sarpanch Mohalla was intercepted and put to sustained search. During the search of the vehicle, two packets weighing 2.6 kilograms of narcotics apparently looking like charas were recovered from the vehicle and personal search of Fayaz Mir in presence of Executive Magistrate Ist Class Lalpora. The recovered narcotics was sealed on the spot, vehicle seized and the two smugglers arrested in case FIR No. 90/2023 under sections NDPS Act. The investigation has been taken up to find out other connections in the case.
Police Kupwara urges the common masses that if they witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere, they should feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the drug menace from the society. Police Kupwara will continue its fight against the drug peddlers and will act tough against the criminals as per law.
