The All Jammu Kashmir Students Society, representing the interests of Kashmiri students, has urgently appealed to Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha for his immediate intervention regarding the ongoing crisis faced by Kashmiri students studying at Desh Bhagat University in Punjab.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to Hon’ble Shri Manoj Sinha, the Chairman of the All Jammu Kashmir Students Society, Musaib Rafiq, outlined the persistent issue that has been affecting approximately 500 students from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. These students, who are pursuing various paramedical courses at Desh Bhagat University, have been grappling with an unfortunate situation that began last year.

The crisis ensued when the university took the unilateral decision to transfer the admissions of these students to Sardar Lal Singh Memorial College, a college affiliated with DBU Punjab but not recognized by the Indian Nursing Council. Despite assurances from the university administration that the matter would be resolved, the students find themselves trapped in an unsettling situation that threatens their academic pursuits and future careers.

One of the key concerns raised in the letter is the over-admission of a staggering 140 students, far exceeding the approved intake capacity, which typically ranges from 40 to 60 students. Additionally, these extra students were transferred to Sardar Lal Singh College without their consent or desire, compounding their distress. The students are now facing immense stress and uncertainty, fearing that their professional prospects are being unfairly jeopardized due to the actions of the university.

The All Jammu Kashmir Students Society firmly believes that the esteemed leadership and expertise of Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha can play a pivotal role in swiftly resolving this critical issue. These young scholars have placed their trust in the Indian Nursing Council to safeguard the norms and regulations governing their education and future careers in the healthcare sector. Therefore, the Society earnestly requests Hon’ble Shri Manoj Sinha’s prompt attention and support in addressing this urgent matter.

The timely response and assistance of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor would be greatly appreciated and would provide much-needed relief to these aspiring healthcare professionals who find themselves entangled in a distressing situation beyond their control.
