Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Friday that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which was referred to a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) in August 2024, will be reintroduced in the ongoing session of Parliament.

With only four working days left before the budget session concludes on April 4, Shah assured that the government is committed to presenting the bill within this timeframe. Speaking at the “Times Now Summit 2025,” he emphasized that the amendments are in line with constitutional principles and that there is no reason for concern.

Dismissing opposition claims, Shah accused them of misleading the Muslim community. “No rights of Muslims will be curtailed. The opposition is spreading lies,” he asserted.

He further argued that the amendment was necessary because the original Waqf Act was a product of “appeasement politics.” Shah claimed that the Congress had framed rules in the law that deviated from constitutional values, whereas the Modi government has now aligned it with the Constitution.
