WhatsApp services have been affected by a disruption, leaving hundreds of users unable to connect, send messages across both the mobile application and the web-based platform.
Downdetector, a website that monitors the status of online services, registered a substantial increase in user complaints. In India alone, about 3,000 reports have logged, with more than 90% of these citing issues with sending messages. The remaining reports indicated server connection problems and general app malfunctions.
At the time of this report, some members of The Times of India’s technology team confirmed they were experiencing difficulties sending messages on both the WhatsApp application and WhatsApp Web.
Globally, approximately 2,800 users reported similar issues, with 91% citing message sending problems, 6% reporting app issues, and 3% experiencing problems in receiving messages. Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has not yet released an official statement to explain the cause of the widespread service disruption.
