On the occasion of World Liver Day, a significant step was taken by the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir to address the rising burden of liver-related diseases, particularly Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD).
A meeting was convened today under the chairmanship of Director Health Services, Kashmir, during which a NAFLD Task Force was formally constituted. The Task Force has been mandated to spearhead the implementation of the National Programme on Prevention and Control of NAFLD, with a special focus on early screening, community awareness, and preventive interventions.
The Director emphasized the importance of integrated action and lifestyle-based approaches to tackle NAFLD, which is emerging as a silent epidemic due to sedentary habits and dietary changes. The Task Force will coordinate efforts across health institutions in collaboration with tertiary institutions in the region and ensure effective rollout of NAFLD-related activities under the broader National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS).
