In a significant development, a group of dynamic youths from Aloosa has joined forces with former Minister Usman Majid, becoming part of his cadre to tackle pressing issues in Bandipora. Welcoming the new members, Majid expressed his appreciation for their commitment and solidarity. The event saw the presence of DDC Bandipora Firdosa Akhtar and senior existing cadre members of Usman Majid.
During the event, Majid took the opportunity to address the ongoing protracted dry weather in the Kashmir Valley. Speaking on the sidelines to the media, he raised alarms about the severe potential impact on the agriculture and horticulture sectors in Bandipora, with a particular focus on the far-flung areas where water scarcity is becoming increasingly acute.
“As the prolonged dry weather continues to prevail, especially during this peak summer season, Kashmir has been left rain-deprived,” Majid stated. “Minimal to no precipitation has been observed across most plains, creating a challenging situation for our farmers and orchardists. The lack of rainfall is threatening the livelihoods of those dependent on agriculture and horticulture in Bandipora. The irrigation systems in the district, particularly the gravity irrigation systems, are now at significant risk due to the continuing dry conditions.”
Majid emphasized the urgent need for immediate government intervention to mitigate the worsening crisis. He called upon the Bandipora administration to recognize the gravity of the situation and take swift action to secure alternative water sources, improve existing irrigation infrastructure, and provide necessary support to the agricultural community.
“District administration should take immediate steps to address this crisis,” urged Majid. “We need comprehensive measures to ensure a consistent supply of water to Bandipora, particularly in the far-flung areas. The administration’s prompt response is crucial to prevent a catastrophic impact on our local economy and the well-being of our communities, he added
