Authorities in Handwara on Wednesday ordered for suspension of all sorts of vehicular traffic movement along the Kulangam after a vital bridge in the area connecting the Handwara with highway caved in on Tuesday.
The decision to suspend the movement has been taken in the backdrop of a report received from 99 Road Construction Coy (GREF).
Informing the public about the directions to avoid vehicular movement, Tehsildar Handwara Zeeshan Khan, in an order said that the bridge is closed for all types of vehicular movement for one week w.e.f 03/10/2024.
To facilitate the movement, the authorities have chalked a separate route plan for those intending to move in or out of Handwara – otherwise through the (now-damaged) bridge.
As per the plan, the traffic from Kupwara to Baramulla shall take route from Vodhpora via Waripora Gonipora – Talri Bridge towards Main Chowk Handwara and then towards Baramulla road.
Similarly, the traffic from Baramulla to Kupwara shall take route from Chotipora towards Vodhpora bridge via Main Chowk Handwara, then Waripora Gonipora and then onwards Vodhpora bridge.
Now locals appeal District administration Kupwara to renovate the demaged bridge with couple of days, so people cannot suffer more
