The Cyber Police Kashmir has issued an advisory to WhatsApp group administrators, warning them against sharing unverified or unconfirmed news that can lead to unnecessary panic and misinformation among the public.
In a statement Cyber Police Kashmir cautioned that spreading rumors or misinformation can result in legal action under the IT Act.
“Posting or sharing unverified or unconfirmed news can lead to unnecessary panic and misinformation among the public. Refrain from spreading rumors or misinformation,” the statement said. “WhatsApp group administrators are responsible for ensuring that the content shared in their groups is authentic and verified. Violating this can result in legal action under the IT Act. Stay informed, stay responsible!”
