SRINAGAR: National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah Wednesday asserted that Election Commission of India’s poll deferment move regarding Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary seat was aimed to deprive nomadic community from right to vote.
He was speaking to a joining ceremony function held in Pir Panchal.
“The decision of ECI taken yesterday was a glaring example of conspiracy. The commission was silent when incessant rains lashed J&K when favorable weather conditions restored they rescheduled the polling. This was aimed to deprive nomadic community of Pir Panchal region from right to vote,” Omar Abdullah asserted.
He said the decision was taken on the pleas of those who are not contesting polls there. “NC wrote to ECI that those who are seeking to postpone the elections are not even in the field. But our plea was not heard seriously, because the rescheduling of polls was aimed to deprive nomads people from exercising their right to vote, but we are hopeful those hatched conspiracy at this juncture will be dusted on polling day,” he said.
He alleged that BJP believes in divide and rule policy like British was playing but NC and its cadre won’t give up and will continue to represent people of Jammu and Kashmir.
