In a significant political development, former Chairman of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Sheikh Ashiq, joined the Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) led by incarcerated MP Engineer Rashid.

Sheikh Ashiq formally joined the party during a ceremony attended by prominent leaders and businessmen, including former General Secretary of the Kashmir High Court Bar Association, GN Shaheen, and former employee leader, Ishtiyak Qadri.
