India has always been at the forefront of taking action on biodiversity conservation, protection, restoration, and enrichment, and has set even higher standards through our updated targets, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During his address to the G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Ministerial Meeting on Friday, PM Modi expressed his pride in India’s leadership through its ambitious “Nationally Determined Contributions.” He stated that India achieved its installed electric capacity from non-fossil fuel sources nine years ahead of the 2030 target and that India is now one of the top five countries in the world in terms of installed renewable energy capacity.
PM Modi has proposed the formation of the “International Big Cat Alliance” based on the learnings from Project Tiger, a pioneering conservation initiative, to preserve the seven big cats of our planet. As a result of Project Tiger, 70% of the world’s tigers are now found in India. PM Modi also mentioned that India is currently working on Project Lion and Project Dolphin.
