Srinagar faced its coldest night of the season as temperatures dropped to minus 5.3°C on Wednesday. The meteorological department reported a decrease of 4.3°C, marking a temperature 4.3°C below the usual for this time of year in Srinagar.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 3.2°C, 2.1°C below normal. Pahalgam, a famous resort in south Kashmir, experienced a low of minus 5.3°C, 1.5°C below normal. Kokernag recorded minus 2.1°C, below normal by 1.0°C. Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.7°C, 2.0°C below normal. Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort, recorded minus 5.5°C, 1.3°C below normal.
Jammu, the winter capital of J&K, recorded a minimum of 7.3°C, below normal by 1.9°C. Banihal recorded 2.9°C, Batote 1.7°C, and Bhaderwah minus 0.2°C.
The Meteorological Department predicts mainly dry and cold weather in J&K until December 21. There is a possibility of a brief spell of very light snow in isolated extreme higher reaches of North & North Eastern parts of Kashmir Division during the night of December 16.
