Among the prominent newcomers who filed their nomination papers today for the Phase-II of Assembly elections, Maher Ali, son of Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad, has the highest annual income of Rs 24 lakh, Rs 4 lakh more than the annual income of NC veteran Mubarak Gul.

Maher, who is contesting polls from Kangan on the NC’s ticket, also possesses movable property worth Rs 65 lakh and immovable assets valued at Rs 4.88 crore, totalling over Rs 5.50 crore.
According to the affidavit, Rs 2.60 crore worth of assets are self-acquired, while Rs 2.28 crore worth of assets are inherited.

His wife, who does not have any source of income, also possesses movable assets worth Rs 14 lakh. Maher has declared a liability of Rs 1 crore in the form of a bank loan.
As per the affidavit, his declared sources of income include stone crushers and private contracts, with an annual income of Rs 24 lakh for the financial year 2024-25, up from over Rs. 6 lakh in 2020-21. He holds a B.A. degree from IGNOU.

Zuhaib Yousf Mir, a first-timer from PDP with a declared annual income of Rs. 6.70 lakh in 2024-25, does not possess any immovable assets. His income, however, has remained constant since 2019-20.
Zuhaib, who holds a degree in Economics from the University of Edinburgh, UK, and is contesting polls from the Lal Chowk seat, is in possession of assets worth Rs. 48 lakh, which include 4,050 shares worth over Rs. 40 lakh.
He also holds 100 grams of gold worth Rs 7 lakh. His wife, with no annual income as per the affidavit, also holds 500 grams of gold worth over Rs 35 lakh. He has declared zero liabilities.

Jibran Dar, a well-known online personality contesting as an Independent from the Chanapora constituency had also contested Lok Sabha elections and secured 5,498 votes. He has only Rs 30 thousand in hand with Rs 2 lakh in liabilities. He holds a B.Tech degree from Kurukshetra University.
A newcomer from BJP, Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, is also in the fray, although he is fighting as an Independent from the Habba Kadal seat.

Gilkar has declared assets worth Rs. 8 lakh-only movable property-with a liability of Rs 34 lakh, which includes a gold loan, mobile loan and car loan. He is under-matric with criminal antecedents.
Among the veteran candidates who filed their nomination papers today, NC’s Mubarak Gul, who is fighting polls from the traditional Eidgah constituency, has declared Rs 20 lakh as his annual income, while his wife, whose occupation is business, has a yearly income of Rs 5 lakh.
Gul, who holds a 1978 B.A. degree, has Rs 2.67 crore worth of movable assets in his name, while his wife holds movable assets worth Rs. 68 lakh.

With a total liability declared as Rs 10 thousand, he is in possession of immovable assets worth over Rs 4 crore, with his wife holding immovable property worth Rs 1.48 crore. In 2024, Gul has a net worth of nearly Rs 7 crore, which was Rs 4.15 crore in 2014 with Rs 1.58 lakh as liability.
Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen Shah of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Front (Secular) has declared assets worth over Rs 7.05 crore, which includes movable assets worth Rs 5.72 lakh and immovable assets worth Rs 7 crore-all of which are inherited, with zero liability.

Hakeem, who has passed class 12, has declared his source of income as a pension, with a yearly income of Rs 9 lakh in 2024-25, up from Rs 5 lakh in 2019-20. In 2014, he had declared assets worth Rs 5.73 crore with total liabilities of Rs. 38,000. (Excelsior)
